Summer is fast approaching with most of our schools now out for vacation or soon to be within the next week.  A couple of things which you should remember while on vacation.

1.  Don’t put your instrument away until Fall and expect to just pick up where you left off.

2.  Summer is a great time to improve on your skills (scales, tone, breath control, etc.) areas

3.  Work on fun things which you don’t seem to have time for during the rest of the school year.

How do we achieve these.  First and foremost, when school is out, if you are renting an instrument, never return it.  The hardest thing to do is restart in the Fall.  There will be many days during the Summer when you don’t seem to have anything to do.  Use these days to keep up and not loose what you have already accomplished.  Many students do this by working on areas 2 and 3 from above.  Pull out your scales sheet, work on long tones, etc. so that come Fall you can hit the floor running and really impress your teacher.  You can also pickup “fun” books to play from your local music store and just play for the enjoyment.

Finally, enjoy your Summer Vacation, but continue to improve.
